Chinese jade pig, late Qing, the body carved into a recumbent animal with its head resting on its front hooves and hind legs tucked under its body, the tail curling around the left haunch, length: 2 in. The pig is a symbol of abundance and prosperity; it is the last animal in the Chinese zodiac and represents hai, the last of the twelve earthly branches.
