Over the course of many dynasties, ceramic techniques slowly evolved. Innovations with under glazes, colors, materials including metallic ores, all propelled Chinese ceramics into a highly prized commodity for the imperial courts throughout China, and ultimately, for export. Ceramics fall under two major categories: low-fired earthenware (pottery), fired at 1000 c. And high-fired stoneware and porcelain, fired at temperatures ranging from 1200 - 1350c. Pottery was also valued in the Far East as elsewhere for its craftsman qualities, as attested by this.

It dates probably to the late 19th or early 20th century. A superb example of a very distinctive style of Chinese ceramic art, it would make a fine collector's piece and is guaranteed authentic.
