RARE LATE 19TH C CHINESE ANTIQUE SM CLOISONNE TRIPOD CENSER WithDRAGONS/BRASS LEGS   RARE LATE 19TH C CHINESE ANTIQUE SM CLOISONNE TRIPOD CENSER WithDRAGONS/BRASS LEGS

RARE LATE 19TH CENTURY CHINESE ANTIQUE DIMINUTIVE 6 CLOISONNE BAKED ENAMEL with BRASS FILIGREE, TRIPOD CENSER, featuring PAIR of FEROCIOUS DRAGONS CHASING FLAMING PEARL of WISDOM AMONG HEAVENLY CLOUDS, with FIGURATIVE, EXPOSED BRASS, HIPPED, ELEVATED TRIPOD LEGS with DRAGON FACES, STYLIZED, COCKED SIDE ARMS, with EXPOSED BRASS SIDES with GREEK SCROLL PATTERN. In incredible, glorious, heavenly estate-fresh condition, with no enamel'bruises,' loss, dings.

Late 19th century Chinese antique cloisonne baked enamel & brass tripod, lidded censors, with. 6" full Height (with cover lid) x 4 1/4" Height (without cover lid). The sidewalls of the tripod cloisonne censer are distinctively decorated with a pair of long, curling, incredibly detailed, serpent-like dragons, which seem to confront each other with a flaming pearl, appearing elusively between them, as if one of the dragons is poised to capture it. Antique Chinese mythology and ancient Chinese folklore speak of two dragons who perpetually fight one another over a flaming pearl, seen as the embodiment of strength and which would allow the dragon who possessed it, immeasurable power and subsequent safe passage into Heaven. The intricately realized, scaled figures of the dragons are placed upon a repeating motif of white, billowing clouds, realized by simply twisted and turned, tooled brass filigree, surrounded by baked white enamel paint. Repeating images of the flaming pearl and what appear to be bluish-purple, blossoming morning glory flowers, populate the nearly the entire enameled surfaces of the cloisonne censer. Exquisitely realized with tremendous craftsmanship and unequaled Chinese artistry. Imbued with Chinese folklore and ancient Chinese mythological narrative, manifested with its specific graphic iconography. Estate fresh and in absolutely glorious, heavenly, extremely well-preserved overall antique condition. It's not common for such an early piece of Chinese, late 19th century antique cloisonne, made somewhere between 1870 to 1895, with this kind of intricate detail and exposed brass elements, to still be in this kind of incredible condition and close to how it was originally constituted. It's estate fresh and was discovered with several other pieces of antique Chinese cloisonne in a well-appointed, fine estate here in southern New Hampshire. This 6 in height, small and diminutive censer, sits on an exposed brass tripod elevated base, featuring figurative, hipped legs with dragon faces on their knees.

The pair of stylized side arms have exposed brass sides with Greek scroll patterning. The fronts and backs of the arms, as well as the lid cover and finial are all decorated with brass filigree and baked enamel. There's no loss, deformities, dents, dings, abrasions, enamel or brass filigree loss. Although diminutive at 6 inches in overall height, it is nevertheless an unscathed and wonderful late 19th century Chinese artifact, that shows refinement, high craft and unrelenting detail and elevated decorative sensibility. There is pedestrian, run-of-the-mill, ordinary,'Plain Jane' cloisonne and then there is cloisonne, which seemed to have been exclusively made for God's own personal showroom.
