Striking Late 1800s/Early 1900s Chinese Cinnabar Red Lacquer Carved Scenic Vase. Presented is a lovely antique Chinese cinnabar lacquer vase, dating to the late 1800s or early 1900s. The exterior of the vase is all red cinnabar with intricately carved designs in crisp high relief against a geometric pattern ground. The scene around the side depicts traditionally garbed figures surrounded by lush trees and foliage, rocks and hills.Above and below the scene is a beautiful raised scrollwork pattern, very eye-catching and appealing. This piece is in great overall condition. There is a little knock to the rim, though the vase can easily be displayed with this facing a wall so it will not be visible. There is a little loss to the red lacquer around the footrim, as you can see in the sixth photo, which is the most noticeable loss to the lacquer and is still quite hard to notice. Otherwise there are a couple of chips to the red lacquer on the scene portion, but these do not go all the way through to the black beneath and require close, careful inspection to notice. Very minor flaking to the black lacquer of the mouth and underside. The underside of the vase is marked China in red. The vase stands about 10 1/8 inches tall at the rim and measures about 6 inches in diameter at the widest point. Striking Late 1800s/Early 1900s Chinese Cinnabar Red Lacquer Carved Scenic Vase 23382.
